Third Queer Culture in Brisbane was formed in 2021 with just five members and has grown to become an independent peer support and advocacy group for LGBTQIA+ refugees.

Coming Up

At the systemic level

we believe that changes in the treatment of LGBTQI+ people with refugee backgrounds are urgently needed.

As an organisation,

we aim to create more conversations with Australians to promote understanding about our experiences.

Currently,

there are perceptions that we are illegally coming to Australia, and we are wasting resources. These assumptions can only be overcome if we open a dialogue to build solidarity.

Acknowledgment of the Country

Third Queer Culture acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land where we live and work and we pay our respect to their cultures, their ancestors and their elders – past and present.
We recognise the continuing trauma caused by losses of children, language, lore and land and the impact that this continues to have on psychological, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
We recognise that since time immemorial, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have nurtured communities of belonging and thriving, and we work in solidarity towards a future of healing and justice
